An Engaging Christmas Show For The Whole Family

I’ve been all over the US and I’ve experienced some pretty brilliant shows and dinner theatres. Christmas in the Dells is very much worth your time if you like variety shows and a tasty family-style meal. My family went to the show last week, and we all enjoyed it very much.

The evening began an hour before showtime with a family-style meal of vegetable cream soup, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, turkey, ham, cheesy mac, green beans, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie or a brownie for dessert. The portions are unlimited and the taste is phenomenal.

I was most impressed with the vegetable cream soup and the cheesy mac, of which we ordered a second serving. The desserts are decently sized. I didn’t even finish my brownie. I was too full.

Traditional non-alcoholic beverages come with the meal, but if you prefer an adult beverage, they have wine and several signature drinks. Be prepared to pay a hefty price. I ordered a bottle of wine to share with my family, as it was the most cost-effective option. Even the non-alcoholic signature drinks are over ten dollars.

As the show began, the servers made themselves scarce to not be in the way. For the couple who came in right at show-time, a little distracting, but they still received their meal, despite their tardiness. I honestly didn’t notice their server dashing around in front of me, as the show was quite engaging.

I ran into one snaffoo, which had to do with booking my tickets. I booked online and for whatever reason, did not receive the table I clicked on. I called the box office; they told me that despite my table looking like it’s available on the site; it was booked under my name. I repeated the table number to clarify we were on the same page, to which the woman I was speaking to stated “b” as in boy and the number. When we got to the show, we were at “d” as in dog. They offered us a different table, but the server had already begun serving us, so we stayed where we were. Honestly, the seats are all pretty decent, but if you want a specific spot, maybe call and book directly through the theatre and not online.

Seating issues aside, they impressed me with everything else. You will experience some exceptional music and vocals, comedy, aerial acrobatics, live nativity, and much more. I still cannot get over how great the singers are. Their voices are on point, and the band is quite talented. Beyond the music, my favorite part of the show was the nativity. It sent chills down my spine. Incredible to experience.

Another highlight of our evening was taking a photo with Santa. When you buy the photo, you also receive the digital file. I promptly ordered a framed version from Keepsake Frames, which was delivered yesterday. A great memento from a fun and memorable evening. CDT PRESENTS: THE PROM

March is here, and nearly gone, which means, Spring is around the corner. For me, two things usher in Spring. A trip to someplace warm for two weeks, and an evening at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres as an early gift for my stepdaughter’s birthday. The theatre is the first stop, and it gives me a feeling of warmth that equals that of a sunny day on the beach.

This year, Chanhassen is producing The Prom, which is a story about equal rights for LGBTQ+ teens who want to attend the iconic school function. For most teens, it is a matter of buying their ticket and showing up, but for one teen, it becomes an all-out war. For another, the decision of whether to show the world her true self weighs heavily.

Joined by some waning theatre stars from another state, Emma Nolan finds unwanted support in achieving a goal she isn’t sure she has the strength to stand up for. With a little encouragement from her new theatrical pals, she finds her voice and manages to break down the walls that stand before her and change the future of prom for all LGBTQ+ teens, forever.

The show is full of comedy and heart and has a talented cast with excellent voices. I attended on March 8th, which was the debut performance of Lussi Pearl as Emma Nolan. Normally, the part is played by Monty Hays, who could not be present that evening. While I cannot attest to the excellence of Monty Hays as Emma, I can say that Lussi Pearl shined. I was especially excited to hear that her father made the trip in and could see her performance. He must be one proud papa!

Outside of the performance, I would like to point out that the theatre offered envelopes for donations to send LGBTQ+ teens to a camp made for inclusion and to meet other LGBTQ+ teens. This is a wonderful opportunity to show support. I happily donated and would encourage anyone else who is attending the show to do so as well. Every child should be able to grow and explore who they are in a safe setting, and that’s what this camp provides.

The Prom will be at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres through June 2023. Purchase your tickets today. You won’t be sorry. Not only is the show great, but it helps a noble cause, and the food is quite tasty too!

An Author’s Life for me

For those of you who do not know, I am the author of the award-winning novel, Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair. My first book was published by Black Rose Writing in March of 2018. The sequel came out the following year in June of 2019 and the third installment will be arriving this year. I am also working on a fourth book which is outside of the Runway Dreams series.

Life as an author is not as easy as some people think. Most often a published book does not mean instant success. You must work hard to hone your skills and improve. Sometimes the road an author must travel is wrought with trial and error. I consider myself quite lucky, because my books are selling, and while I know the first installment is not perfect, I also know the second and third are better stories and hugely improved. As long as I keep improving and people continue to read my stories, I consider myself to be successful.

If you have a story to tell, don’t give up. Keep working at it. Keep believing in yourself. You will get to your goal eventually, providing you never stop believing in yourself. When I wrote Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair, I told myself it would be published. I was picked up by one of the very first publishers I sent the book to. I know that is not the norm, but perhaps it plays to the power of positivity?

Authors need supportive people in their lives. They run on creativity and coffee, as well as cat companionship, but if you are a human friend, be supportive and let them know you are in their corner. It’s not easy to finish a full-length novel, and it sure as heck is not easy to find a publisher. Once they do, they will remember your confidence in them and possibly give you a nod in their published novel.

For the authors you love to read, remember to review their books on Goodreads and Amazon. This is important for sales. Try not to be a jerk. We know our books are not meant for everyone, but your dislike is no excuse for poor behavior. I honestly do not review a book if I have to rate it below a three. A three means it is okay but could use improvement. If it’s below a three, I probably do not have much good to say. I don’t want to drag them down further when others might love the story. We want the right audience to find us, as well as our author friends.

If you are into humorous stories about love and deceit and you like to read about rich and famous characters who come to the realization that there is more to life than the bubble they were previously living in, you should checkout: Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair. If you have read my first book, then the second is an absolute must.

Please find the links to my books below, and remember, never give up on your dreams and be nice to your dreamer friends.

Diamond Jo Casino In Worth, Iowa

Over the past seven years I have spent quite a bit of time in Iowa. My friends and family seem to think that it is so far away. In reality, it’s only about an hour from where I currently live, in Minnesota. There is more to this state than just corn fields, which is what people tend to think of when they hear Iowa. If you like casino games or checking out new places, Diamond Jo Casino, in Worth, Iowa, might be the place for you.

Only an hour and a half south of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Diamond Jo is a great overnight destination, or day trip. This casino offers a variety of food options, such as: Burger King, Subway, The Kitchen Buffet, and the Woodfire Grille. I tend to choose Burger King’s chicken nuggets, or the buffet. The food at the buffet is decent. They have one particular dessert that I look for any time I visit. It’s a chocolate gluten free dessert that is to die for. I most enjoy their brunch, which includes an omelet station and various other breakfast items. This buffet has gone through some changes and continues to evolve; my hope is that it will continue to improve, because there are a few items, such as the Crab Rangoon, that could use some work, but there are also items, such as the catfish, that I find quite delectable.

As far as games go, this casino tends to keep on top of trends. They do offer a variety of old and new games. I was a little bummed to find out that they appear to have gotten rid of their Pelican Pete games, which I love. They do have live table games and a poker room if you enjoy a little more action.

Diamond Jo provides free live entertainment at their Big Wheel Bar every Friday and Saturday night. If you are looking for some bigger names in music, they also have musicians and comedians scheduled in their event center, throughout the year. A calendar can be obtained on their website.

If you visit Diamond Jo and you would like to stay overnight, they have pretty decent accommodations. The casino is connected to the local Country Inn & Suites. I have previously stayed at this hotel and very much enjoyed my room, as well as the hot tub and pool area. I have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express across the street, the first couple of days it was open, and the rooms there were very nice as well. Either place provided for some relaxing downtime after a night of fun at the casino.

This casino atmosphere is fairly comfortable. The gaming area is not as big as that of Mystic Lake or Treasure Island Casino, but it is enough to meet my standards. I have enjoyed many evenings checking out the music at the Big Wheel Bar, as well as dining with family and friends. I always have a great time at Diamond Jo.

Get Your Groupon On!

Whenever I am getting ready for a trip, or I need a night out for dinner, or a massage to relax, there is one place I look to without fail. That place is Groupon. I am sure that many of my readers will recall hearing me speak of Groupon in the past. Groupon is a site where you can get goods and services, as well as vacation packages, for a fraction of their original cost.

Groupon is located all over the US; some cities have caught on more quickly than others. My home town for instance, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has some Groupons available, but not enough to make me happy at this point. Places like Las Vegas, however, have all sorts of Groupon services and items to choose from.

To use Groupon, all you have to do is add the app to your phone, or go to their website: www.groupon.com. You then type in the location you are interested in, and voila, all sorts of things will pop up. One thing to note is that most goods can be ordered no matter your location, but the voucher will say if it has any stipulations.

When we go to Las Vegas or anywhere on vacation, I always check to see if there are deals on hotel rooms, restaurants, or things to do. Most often we will find several restaurant options. Something important to understand is that most likely the business providing the offer is only making a quarter of what they normally would on the service or item they are offering. Groupon gets the other quarter of the price, because the price is half of what it would normally be. With this in mind, please tip well if you are going to dinner, or to get a massage, etc.

If you purchase a Groupon, always make sure you keep the expiration date in mind. You want to make sure your voucher is good during the dates you are traveling before you purchase it. If your voucher expires, however, you can still use the amount you originally paid, toward the service.

For the business owner who is looking to use Groupon, there are things you should keep in mind. The purpose of Groupon is to help businesses bring in new clientele, however, depending on whom you are and what you offer, most often the people who buy Groupons do not return. They are simply looking for a deal and providing you with fast cash, though it is a fraction of what you would normally make on your provided service. If you are a massage therapist, this could be great for you. If you are a Reiki Practitioner, like me, and people don’t necessarily know what Reiki is, this will bring in some clients, but not necessarily the amount you would hope for.

As a business on the selling end of Groupon, I have had a lot of frustrations with the company. They wouldn’t give me what I wanted in my advertisement; they didn’t like to return my calls or emails. I requested a different account manager and never had my request met, and then suddenly my account manager was gone from the company and I was never told about a replacement. I am not saying this will be your experience, I am sure others have had great experiences; mine just didn’t go how I had pictured.

If you are dealing with Groupon as a client who has an issue, they are pretty great. They tend to rectify issues quite quickly. Usually if there is a problem with the Groupon, they will refund your money. Sometimes they will give you a credit. I have never been let down by the final outcome of my request for remedying an issue with a business.

If you love online shopping and deals, check out Groupon. They can save the average person quite a bit of money on a daily basis, especially if you are open to trying new things. Just be careful, Groupon can become a little addicting when you start receiving discount codes on a regular basis.

Let’s All Go To Zombie Burlesque

Now that you have planned a trip to Las Vegas; you have planned a trip to Las Vegas, haven’t you? Well perhaps you don’t plan your trips as frequently as my husband and I do. We went to Las Vegas in October of 2016, January of 2017, and now we are leaving shortly to head back to Las Vegas. We go to Vegas frequently because we have family there and we know how to have a good time on and off the Strip.

Speaking of having a good time, if you are ever in Las Vegas and wondering if you should see the show Zombie Burlesque, the answer is yes. Yes you should go see the show Zombie Burlesque. It may sound a little bit odd, and it probably is. I have seen this show twice and I have taken relatives with me, as well as sent my parents on their own. Everyone has enjoyed themselves immensely.

This show is comedic and it will make you laugh. Some of the jokes are very slapstick. It’s not on the gruesome side, if that was your concern. The zombies are still fairly attractive. You will see beautiful costumes and a lot of singing and dancing; this show is silly, sexy, musical fun.

Tickets will run you about $80 per person online, plus fees. You can at times find tickets on Groupon for $39 or two for $72. I bought my tickets through Groupon and I see that there is still a special available at this time. Whatever you are doing in Las Vegas, this show is worth a view.
