Carlos’n Charlie’s At The Flamingo

When in Vegas, there are plenty of dining options to choose from. There is no shortage of buffets, bars, or any other type of food you might have a hankering for. If you have a particular love for Mexican cuisine, and you like the bar scene, Carlos’n Charlie’s might be the place for you.

Carlos’n Charlie’s is similar to Senor Frogs, and they are located in the Flamingo. They have the DJ who plays a lot of fun party music, they hand out free shots here and there and they may even have a silly contest or two. People in this bar tend to get a bit wild and crazy, from my experience.

The food is good. I’ve tried several different items on the menu and all are wonderful. I particularly enjoy there appetizer platter, everything on it is quite tasty. The ribs are also great. You will not be disappointed by portions.

If you look on Groupon, you may find a voucher for food and two hours of unlimited drinking. This can be dangerous because they tend to pour their drinks a little strong. They give you a choice of tap beer or the frozen margaritas.  I like the margaritas because they are served in a glass you can keep and you can choose to mix flavors together.

An Evening With Cher

If you are a looking for great shows in Las Vegas, always keep an eye out for the short term performers that visit. During our last trip to Las Vegas we found out that Cher would be performing at the Monte Carlo. My family was all over that; my uncle said he would pay anything to see her, so we made it happen. Luckily we didn’t have to pay an astronomical price. We had balcony seats but it was worth it and we still had a great view.

We bought tickets for her first performance of the series, which was on May third. We had no idea what to expect since, after all, Cher is now seventy-one years old. I had heard from a friend that she was still very active on stage, so my hopes were pretty high. I didn’t want to miss out on this concert because I had never seen Cher before and with her age it is hard to say how long she will continue to tour.

My husband, Neal, was not so sure he wanted to go to the concert, but after all was said and done, we had a blast. Watching Cher’s concert was like watching a play. Almost every song had different costumes. There were lots of backup dancers that danced alongside Cher. She was on the move pretty consistently. You could tell toward the end she seemed a little tired, but seriously, she’s seventy-one and still shaking her booty on stage, that says a lot.

She didn’t speak a ton, just at the very beginning she told a couple of stories, which were interesting. She stated that she had done a five minute plank earlier that day, which blew my mind. She looks great and you can tell she takes good care of herself. After her short storytelling moment the rest of the concert was full force ahead.

The music sounded great. There was one song that they did over because Cher had a costume glitch and was stuck singing backstage, but it was cool to see what the choreography was like once she came out from behind the curtain. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and I could not take my eyes off of her or the set. I took a ton of photographs and I plan to make a coffee table book dedicated to Cher.

If you want to see Cher, I would wholeheartedly recommend this concert. She did all of the hits including songs with Sonny where they projected him on the big screen and played the recording of him singing his parts. I would even go as far as to see this concert again, it was that much fun.

Get Your Groupon On!

Whenever I am getting ready for a trip, or I need a night out for dinner, or a massage to relax, there is one place I look to without fail. That place is Groupon. I am sure that many of my readers will recall hearing me speak of Groupon in the past. Groupon is a site where you can get goods and services, as well as vacation packages, for a fraction of their original cost.

Groupon is located all over the US; some cities have caught on more quickly than others. My home town for instance, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has some Groupons available, but not enough to make me happy at this point. Places like Las Vegas, however, have all sorts of Groupon services and items to choose from.

To use Groupon, all you have to do is add the app to your phone, or go to their website: www.groupon.com. You then type in the location you are interested in, and voila, all sorts of things will pop up. One thing to note is that most goods can be ordered no matter your location, but the voucher will say if it has any stipulations.

When we go to Las Vegas or anywhere on vacation, I always check to see if there are deals on hotel rooms, restaurants, or things to do. Most often we will find several restaurant options. Something important to understand is that most likely the business providing the offer is only making a quarter of what they normally would on the service or item they are offering. Groupon gets the other quarter of the price, because the price is half of what it would normally be. With this in mind, please tip well if you are going to dinner, or to get a massage, etc.

If you purchase a Groupon, always make sure you keep the expiration date in mind. You want to make sure your voucher is good during the dates you are traveling before you purchase it. If your voucher expires, however, you can still use the amount you originally paid, toward the service.

For the business owner who is looking to use Groupon, there are things you should keep in mind. The purpose of Groupon is to help businesses bring in new clientele, however, depending on whom you are and what you offer, most often the people who buy Groupons do not return. They are simply looking for a deal and providing you with fast cash, though it is a fraction of what you would normally make on your provided service. If you are a massage therapist, this could be great for you. If you are a Reiki Practitioner, like me, and people don’t necessarily know what Reiki is, this will bring in some clients, but not necessarily the amount you would hope for.

As a business on the selling end of Groupon, I have had a lot of frustrations with the company. They wouldn’t give me what I wanted in my advertisement; they didn’t like to return my calls or emails. I requested a different account manager and never had my request met, and then suddenly my account manager was gone from the company and I was never told about a replacement. I am not saying this will be your experience, I am sure others have had great experiences; mine just didn’t go how I had pictured.

If you are dealing with Groupon as a client who has an issue, they are pretty great. They tend to rectify issues quite quickly. Usually if there is a problem with the Groupon, they will refund your money. Sometimes they will give you a credit. I have never been let down by the final outcome of my request for remedying an issue with a business.

If you love online shopping and deals, check out Groupon. They can save the average person quite a bit of money on a daily basis, especially if you are open to trying new things. Just be careful, Groupon can become a little addicting when you start receiving discount codes on a regular basis.

Cris Angel Will Blow Your Mind

In a previous post I mentioned that I am a fan of the Cirque Du Soleil shows. One of my favorites in particular is the Cris Angel MINDFREAK show, at the Luxor. If you like Magic, as well as acrobatics, you will enjoy this show.

Cris Angel puts on a show like no other Cirque at present. He wows you with everything he does. You will sit in awe and wonder how he does it. How he does it, doesn’t really matter, what matters is that he will blow your mind and leave you speechless, every time.

Even though I have seen this show, I believe that I could go back repeatedly and still have a blast. There is no shortage of things to look at during his acts. At times he involves the audience. Some moments may make you squirm a little in your seat, but those moments usually go by quickly. The main thing to remember is that it’s magic, and somewhere there is a logical explanation; or is there?

***Note that I do not have a current photo for this particular show because they would not let us take photos inside, but if I get one next time I visit from outside I will add it to this article.

Updates To The Wyndham Grand Desert

I am back from vacation and I have lots of things to write about. The first thing I would like to talk about is the Wyndham Grand Desert. You may recall that I have spoken of this Wyndham location previously; I mention it again because, Neal and I, stayed at the Grand Desert for a couple of days last week.

Upon check-in we found out that tower 3 had been completely remodeled. We requested this tower so that we could check out the changes. My hope was that the renovation included the addition of some color to the rooms; boy was I pleased with what I found. To me the tower looked much more sophisticated and inviting.

The new remodel included improvements to the furnishings as well as the addition of lots of color. The room we stayed in had beautiful purple flowers on the walls and the artwork was much improved. There was still a whirlpool fit for two and I was very happy to see that.

The exterior of tower 3 included a new pool area, which seemed small, but clean and attractive for relaxation. I did not get a chance to check out the other towers to make sure the large pool area was still present. I know that there were a few other updates made as well to the grounds, but I did not get a chance to check those out either. I will have to do more investigating on our next stay; I am sure we will be back again. I look forward to seeing what else their remodel includes.

Beauty On The Strip

One particular aspect of Las Vegas that I truly enjoy is all of the beautiful architecture. As I noted previously, my husband, Neal, likes to call the hotels of the strip museums because there are so many wonderful things to look at. If you like fine art, architecture, and exploring, wandering the Strip with the decision to just appreciate the structure and beauty of the different hotels and casinos, can be a lot of fun.

It is hard for me to choose one particular casino/hotel that I find the most interesting. I have a very strong appreciation for the Bellagio because this hotel has a gorgeous Dale Chihuly installed in the ceiling of their lobby. Dale is one of my favorite artists because his glass is so beautiful. If you like his work, you can also find one of his galleries located at 3600, South Las Vegas Boulevard. You will see his pieces in some of the other casinos and hotels as well. Aside from the Chihuly; the Bellagio also has their fountains and conservatory which are very much worth viewing.

Another casino and hotel that I love is the Venetian. They have their gondolas, and beautiful building exterior. I love the frescoes on the ceiling. There is so much to look at within and outside the Venetian. It is definitely worth a look.

You cannot go wrong wandering through the Luxor or Paris. Every casino has their own theme and they are designed accordingly. Take pictures, have fun, check everything out. If you like art I would suggest photographs of your favorite views and then creating a tabletop album out of the photos. Your family and friends will love looking at all of the interesting things you saw.

A Visit To The Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Las Vegas is a favorite vacationing spot for my husband and me, both. We love Vegas because we have family there, but we also love all of the wonderful things you can do in the area. My husband likes to tell people that each casino is like its own museum. There is more to a Las Vegas hotel than just the rooms and casino.

As I stated yesterday, the Bellagio has a great Fountain show, but that is not all the this impressive hotel and casino offers. If you venture inside this beautiful hotel and casino, you will also find out that it is the home of “O,” by Cirque Du Soleil as well as several great lounges and restaurants. The Bellagio also has a fine art gallery and a Conservatory & Botanical Garden.

I make a point of checking out the Conservatory & Botanical Garden on a regular basis. This garden is a must see for anyone who loves art and/or flowers. You will be transported to a magical land of fragrant fantastical beauty. The Conservatory’s theme is changed every season, including Chinese New Year. Bring your camera because you will definitely want pictures of this. During my last visit a bride and groom were being photographed on a bridge right in the middle of everything; the theme at the time was Chinese New Year.

This garden has lots of water and fountains incorporated into it. Most often you can find giant Coy swimming freely in the ponds. One of my personal favorite items in the Conservatory is the living painting that they make for each season. This painting is made completely of flowers and it’s always beautiful and impressive.

Check Out The Bellagio Fountains

When visiting Las Vegas, there are so many beautiful things to see. A person could spend weeks in Vegas and never run out of new things to see and do, providing they look further than just gambling in the casinos. Something I could never get enough of, (you guessed, it has to do with water) is the Fountain show at the Bellagio.

You need to see this show up close, and many times, because it changes frequently. The Fountains are synchronized with lights and music that will draw you in and make it hard for you to walk away. If you stand on the bridges or walkways surrounding the show, you will even get to feel the spray of the water as the Fountains move with the song.

The show has different running times, dependent on the day of the week. Daytime hours have it running every thirty minutes. At night the show runs every fifteen minutes until midnight. It’s worthwhile to see during day or night. You can get great pictures no matter when you watch. The Fountains are set to music by artists such as: Katie Perry, Michael Jackson, and Frank Sinatra, for a decent mix of old and new.

I highly recommend, if it is at all in your capability, to get a room with a view of the Fountains. As I have noted in a previous article, certain rooms at Bally’s allow you to sit in the window and just watch the water Fountains go off all night long. There are plenty of other hotels on the strip that will allow for similar views, so book yours today, for a fun romantic evening.

A View From The Eiffel Tower In Las Vegas

The Eiffel Tower has long been a favorite destination for overseas travelers to Paris. If you happen to be vacationing in Las Vegas, you may very well be staying at Paris, in which case, I would highly suggest checking out the Las Vegas version of the Eiffel Tower. This is yet another destination that provides great views of the Strip.

The Las Vegas Eiffel Tower is only half the size of the real Eiffel Tower, but it’s still quite impressive. Atop the 46 story high building, you will be able to see for miles. This is a great destination for creating memories as well as taking in the night lights of the Strip.

To get tickets you must go to the Eiffel Tower Box Office and most likely wait in line to make your purchase. You may buy tickets ahead if you purchase them online. You might even be able to find a Groupon or Living Social for a discounted price.

My husband and I went to the Eiffel Tower this past October. The line to redeem our voucher for tickets went fairly fast. We got in line for the elevator ride to the top, and suddenly, despite the line being fairly short, things slowed quite a bit. We waited about a half an hour. Only so many people can fit in the glass elevators, so the process was a little slow.

Once we made it to the top, we were glad we had bought the tickets. We went in the evening and it was dark outside. We were able to get great photos of the Strip, as well as the High Roller, which is one of my other favorite Las Vegas attractions.

After we’d had our fill of the cool night air, we were able to easily depart via glass elevator. The ride back down was almost instantaneous. I don’t know if I would spend thirty minutes waiting in line to do this a second time, but it was well worth the experience to go at least once.

Romantic Nights at Bally’s

In an earlier post, you may have noticed, that I mentioned having a favorite section of rooms at Bally’s, which I loved to stay in because of the amazing view. From those rooms you can see the Bellagio water fountain show, the Eiffel tower, and the Paris pool. The view is exceptional and makes for a nice evening in with my man. You could experience this too if you ask for a room with this particular view, it costs a little extra to upgrade, but it’s worth it.

This is not the only magical room at Bally’s. Two years back, Neal and I decided to get married in Las Vegas. We were checking into Bally’s that night after the ceremony. Upon arrival we told the host about our day and our plans. She was very thoughtful and kind to us and she told the woman checking us in to upgrade us to a suite.

It’s these amazing gestures that make for a memorable trip. That room is still on my mind when I look back on that magical day. That particular host’s gesture is why I will keep coming back to Bally’s, and I will enjoy every moment of it.
