Stitch Fix Fa-La-La Edit vs. Wantable Happy Holidays Style Edit

If you’re like me, your calendar is overflowing with holiday cheer. You can’t find a single place to add in time for yourself between the cookie baking, secret family recipe wassail making, and holiday music themed gift-wrapping marathons. You’re meeting yourself coming and going, which means you have no time to find that perfect holiday outfit. You know, the one that takes all week trekking from store to store to locate. This year, you’re in luck ladies and gents because I have an excellent option for you!

I’ve spent a year testing out two companies that pair you with a personal stylist who picks out clothes and then sends them directly to you. The first company I tried was Wantable. The second, is Stitch Fix. Because it’s the holiday season, I chose their holiday edits for the best comparison.

Wantable: Holiday Style Edit

With Wantable, you fill out a survey, your sizes, and notes to direct your stylist, choose your edit, and pay a twenty-dollar styling fee, which you get back if you purchase an item. You also receive access to a clothing stream where you can request or reject different articles of clothing. There’s a section for notes and requests as well. The box you receive will contain seven items, along with a return envelope for the articles you decide not to buy. If you buy five items, you receive twenty percent off your order, a great incentive. Sometimes they waive the styling fee or add other incentives to your order. Currently, there’s a free necklace with a single purchase. After you try on your order, you have five days to return whatever you don’t want. If you need longer, they have an option to extend the return period.

Above, you can see the Happy Holiday Style Edit I received. The last image on the right is the free necklace.

Upon first look, I loved everything they sent me, and I was excited to find that they gave me a preview before finalizing my shipment. With the preview, the stylist gives you a short window to reject or request items she has picked for your order. This is new to me. I never received an email about this review period previously, so I believe it might be a new thing they’ve adopted.

Everything looks cute, but upon further inspection, I found the (78 & Sunny $69) Grateful sweater to be too big, with massive batwing arms. The animal print (B Collection by Bobeau $69) popcorn cardigan’s sleeves hung roughly 7 inches past my fingertips. I already have a green sweatshirt like the (Herizon $69) black one, and I decided I didn’t need another. The burgundy and white striped (Staccato $59) sweater isn’t my thing. I really wanted the (Joy Susan $86) purse. It has a secondary crossbody purse inserted inside, but the reviews I found made it sound like it wasn’t worth the money. I’m not a blazer person, so while I appreciate the look and feel of the red velvet (Skies are Blue $89) blazer, it’s not something I’d wear. The green and white striped (Z Supply $79) sweater was wide, but much shorter than it appeared online. It’s a crop sweater and I specifically requested no crops/midriffs, but I requested it from my preview, as the image is deceiving. In the end, I returned everything including the necklace.

The order total before the discount was $520. If I’d bought the purse, I would have gotten my $10.55 discounted styling fee back, and I would have received the free necklace. Had I bought five items, I would have received the styling fee and twenty percent off.

PROS:

  • Wantable sends you 7 items to choose from.
  • You get a discount if you buy 5 items.
  • You can choose a category for your order: Style, Sleep, or Active.
  • Allows for recurring orders.
  • Has sustainable brands.
  • Customer service is kind and responsive. They’ll go out of their way to make things right.

CONS:

  • No kids clothing.
  • I feel the clothing is less budget-friendly than Stitch Fix.
  • You can’t schedule for a specific date.
  • I’ve asked for a specific item in the note many times but never seem to get that item, though I frequently get other items I requested in the stream.
  • Discount is only 20%.

Stitch Fix Fa-La-La Edit

I’ve purchased a few Stitch Fixes over the past year, but the edits are new and something I’m very excited about. This was my first themed edit, and I have to say, I was impressed.

Like Wantable, Stitch Fix has you pay a twenty-dollar styling fee, which you get back if you purchase an item, fill out a survey, and sizes, and make notes for your stylist. They also have a stream where you can give a thumbs up or down to items. If I want a specific item, I usually put it in the notes. You will receive five items and three days to try them out. Stitch Fix also gives you a window to preview your stylist’s pics. You can veto as many as you like and they will pick new ones if needed. I highly recommend leaving notes for your stylist so they know why you vetoed, etc.

One thing they have that Wantable doesn’t is an inspiration board. If you’re serious about receiving a great style box, follow my lead. Create a file on your computer of images of you in some of your favorite looks, as well as images you downloaded of styles you love. Upload them to Stitch Fixes’ inspiration board. Before I did this, I was not satisfied with my styles. Now it’s rare for me to receive items I’m not fond of.

I loved four of these items, but in the end I only bought two due to budgeting being unsure about one item and how it looked. I wasn’t sure about the black lace (Dizzy Lizzy $68) mini dress, as I don’t usually show that much of my legs, but I truly debated it because I thought it was cute. It did come with a flaw. There was seam ripped at the very bottom, but they still had my size and Stitch Fix has had great customer service response thus far. I kept the (Urban Expressions $48) green daisy clutch because it was vegan leather and reminded me of a 20’s purse. It matches a super cute pair of wedge sandals I bought a few months back from Stitch Fix. I also purchased the green (FORTUNE + IVY $39) keyhole blouse. I didn’t think it would fit, but it did and I can’t wait to wear it with the sandals and new purse. The black sparkly (Bobeau $58) boatneck bow shirt was cute, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to keep the bow looking nice. The number one love in this order, that I didn’t purchase, is the gold Shaken and Brewed (Kate Spade $68) mini studs. I love Kate Spade, but I’m willing to wait for them to come down in price, and between that, my clothing maintenance issues, and the mini dress, I decided to tamp down my purchasing urges and only buy two items.

Had I purchased all of the items, the original total would have been $281, but with the twenty-five percent discount and removal of the styling fee, the final price would have been $190.75.

PROS:

  • Ships fast and generally arrives within a day or two of chosen delivery date.
  • Allows for an inspiration board.
  • Well-known brands.
  • More budget-friendly than Wantable. (I let them know if I’m looking to keep prices on the low end due to Christmas, etc.)
  • Has sustainable brands.
  • Allows for recurring orders.
  • Responsive customer service.
  • You can purchase items individually if you don’t want a full fix.
  • 25% off if you purchase all 5 items.
  • You can schedule specific dates/timeframes to receive your fix.

CONS:

  • You only receive 5 items.
  • There is no discount if you choose not to purchase all 5 items (unless they’re running a special)
  • The return window is shorter than Wantable’s.
  • No categories to choose from. (But you can request specific items).

After all my fashion adventures between Stitch Fix and Wantable, I still like both companies. Most of their brands are different, but a few overlap such as Bobeau. They’ve both given me excellent options over the past year. I’ve fallen in love with great new finds from both companies. When all is said and done, I lean slightly more toward Stitch Fix, as I like being able to choose a specific date for my order to arrive and that they give 25% off your full order. Also, their holiday edit felt more festive and spoke to me and my style.

Happy holidays!

An Author’s Life for me

For those of you who do not know, I am the author of the award-winning novel, Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair. My first book was published by Black Rose Writing in March of 2018. The sequel came out the following year in June of 2019 and the third installment will be arriving this year. I am also working on a fourth book which is outside of the Runway Dreams series.

Life as an author is not as easy as some people think. Most often a published book does not mean instant success. You must work hard to hone your skills and improve. Sometimes the road an author must travel is wrought with trial and error. I consider myself quite lucky, because my books are selling, and while I know the first installment is not perfect, I also know the second and third are better stories and hugely improved. As long as I keep improving and people continue to read my stories, I consider myself to be successful.

If you have a story to tell, don’t give up. Keep working at it. Keep believing in yourself. You will get to your goal eventually, providing you never stop believing in yourself. When I wrote Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair, I told myself it would be published. I was picked up by one of the very first publishers I sent the book to. I know that is not the norm, but perhaps it plays to the power of positivity?

Authors need supportive people in their lives. They run on creativity and coffee, as well as cat companionship, but if you are a human friend, be supportive and let them know you are in their corner. It’s not easy to finish a full-length novel, and it sure as heck is not easy to find a publisher. Once they do, they will remember your confidence in them and possibly give you a nod in their published novel.

For the authors you love to read, remember to review their books on Goodreads and Amazon. This is important for sales. Try not to be a jerk. We know our books are not meant for everyone, but your dislike is no excuse for poor behavior. I honestly do not review a book if I have to rate it below a three. A three means it is okay but could use improvement. If it’s below a three, I probably do not have much good to say. I don’t want to drag them down further when others might love the story. We want the right audience to find us, as well as our author friends.

If you are into humorous stories about love and deceit and you like to read about rich and famous characters who come to the realization that there is more to life than the bubble they were previously living in, you should checkout: Runway Dreams: A Black & White Affair. If you have read my first book, then the second is an absolute must.

Please find the links to my books below, and remember, never give up on your dreams and be nice to your dreamer friends.

A Taste Of CAUSEBOX

Recently, by which I mean last summer, I found out about a new obsession. Well, maybe it’s not new to others, but it is to me. This particular obsession provides the buyer with an element of surprise while getting them products that they might not have typically found or bought on their own. The  obsession I refer to is that of buying subscription boxes. I never would have guessed how many different boxes exist, but I can tell you one thing for certain, I greatly enjoy telling people whenever I find a product I genuinely love.

Subscription boxes come in many different forms, but my favorites are those which provide a variety of lifestyle products, clothing and accessories, travel, or books. Yesterday I received the introductory box from CAUSEBOX, which can often be purchased for the discounted price of $24.95 and comes with nearly $150 worth of products.

The introductory box is a smaller version of their larger quarterly subscription box. This particular box comes with five popular items inside. Now, if you don’t know, CAUSEBOX’s mission statement is, “to bring sustainable and ethical products to everyone,” which I can definitely get behind. Each item they place inside their boxes lives up to their mission statement.

The items I received inside my introductory box are as follows: 1-17oz red S’well bottle, 1-October Jaipur natural vegan leather envelope clutch, 1-full-size DERMA E hydrating night cream, 1-Wyld French pink clay konjac sponge, and 1-Banded scrunchie 3-pack in yellow, white, and pink.

Each item inside the box has its own card with image, original price of the item, product description, and company information. For instance, the Banded scrunchie card informs the new product owner that each purchase will feed 3 meals to a child in need and that Banded has, “donated over 10.4 million meals to undernourished children to date.” I love their scrunchies even more with the new knowledge that they help feed children in need.

As of this moment, I have only tried out two of the products in the box. The scrunchies and the WYLD sponge. I love them. The sponge is quite soft and luxurious feeling. It is not rough on the skin at all and it boasts cleaner pores. I have decided to make it a part of my daily routine. The best part is, each sale helps with marine wildlife conservation. The scrunchies are soft and funky, and I’ve already told you they feed children, so they get a “yay!” from me.

I currently own a S’well bottle in 8oz, so I was happy to get one in 17oz because it’s perfect for plane rides because it keeps liquids cold for up to 24 hours and hot liquids warm for up to 12. The bottle is normally $35 dollars and it was the only product I knew to exist inside this box prior to ordering. The bottle alone made the purchase worthwhile. This was the only item that did not have a card with it. For anyone who does not know, S’well helps bring clean water to communities in need around the world.

I look forward to testing the DERMA E night cream. I am currently in search of a new product to help with keeping my skin looking it’s best. For those of you who do not know me, I do not look my age, but I am starting to see some fine lines and this product might be the winner. I will keep everyone posted ;o). On a side-note, these subscription boxes have helped me up my face preservation game. Previously I did not have a regular exfoliating, moisturizing, clarifying, etc., ritual, but I do now.

I have told you about my view on four of the products, now let me give you my feelings on the final item. The October Jaipur vegan leather envelope clutch in natural. It has a magnetic closure, credit cards slots, and a zipper pocket inside. The size is fairly decent and can definitely hold your phone, keys, and perhaps a couple of makeup items, which is great, but I feel due to its slippery sheen and size, I would probably be dropping it throughout the night. The clutch is the most expensive item in the box at $54. I have to be honest; I am not a big fan. I am going to give it a shot as a large wallet because I do not use clutch purses. I prefer, at the very least, a wrist strap. My other issue is that I simply do not find it to be attractive. I am not a huge fan of the color, but it does appear to be solid and I do appreciate that it is hand-stitched and ethically made.

If I were to purchase the quarterly subscription, the box would run me $54.95 per month and it would contain $250+ worth of products. The quarterly option is more expensive in the long-run than the annual option, which saves you $5 per box. The quarterly subscription does not allow you to customize any of your options, but the annual does. Both memberships allow you to participate in CAUSEBOX product sales at discounted prices. As of the current date, if you decide CAUSEBOX is not for you, you may cancel your subscription at any time.

My overall view of CAUSEBOX is that they are a wonderful company, but considering my distaste for the most expensive item inside the box, I am thinking about passing on the annual subscription. If you would like more information on CAUSEBOX or any of the products, please check out the links I have posted below.

October Luxury Divas Box – Yes!

It’s month number two and I have received my Luxury Divas Box.  I am excited to say that I loved everything in this box and I am stoked that I decided to do a three month membership. The three month membership saves you five dollars per box, which brings the total down to thirty dollars per month.

This box came with the following: Red Luxury Divas slouchy hat, white fuzzy boot socks, a beautiful silver mesh bracelet, a pair of dangly caged crystal earrings, a black and purple crossbody bag, and a burgundy choker style top which fits great. I have no complaints. They also sent me a ten dollar gift certificate for the Luxury Divas site, because October is my birth month. I immediately went online and bought a beautiful ankle bracelet. I cannot wait until it comes. I plan to wear it in Las Vegas around the pool.

Here are the things I love about this company. They ship promptly. They take into consideration the colors you like and the type of style you wear. They give you a little something extra for your birthday. They write you a personalized note each month and they give you a sheet that tells you about each product and its value. I promptly emailed Marina, my curator, and told her how well she did. They also send you a little treat in each box, which was candy corn this month.

If you like accessories and you don’t want to break the bank on a monthly box subscription, I highly recommend Luxury Divas. The items fit well and I feel they are practical. I think you will find the experience refreshing. This is a company I feel good about. If you would like to see more images of the items from the October box, please visit my Facebook page. I will be posting images as soon as possible. https://www.facebook.com/starspiritadventures/

LD – Box One – Loving It!

Hey friends! Today I’m doing something new. Those of you who follow my blog know that I like to post articles about places I have visited. Beyond travel, I also have a strong love for fine food, art, wine, and don’t get me started on my love for hats, lingerie, shoes, jewelry, and purses. Honestly, my accessory love has grown immensely, which is why I am here today to review the Luxury Divas Box.

My first box arrived this afternoon, and boy was I stoked! This box is $34.99/month, or slightly less if you subscribe for three months at a time. I like this subscription, because unlike other fashion boxes, you get to keep everything they send you. It’s a whole lot more than accessories.

My box contained seven items, literature that explained each item’s value, and a description of why they chose the items they did for the current month. This is what I received: Long grey knit cardigan with pockets, a gold leaf necklace, a black, white, and rose gold watch with silicone band, a black and white Luxury Divas canvas tote, an Italia Deluxe Lashes For Daze waterproof mascara, and a blue multicolor art deco scarf. There was also a wonderful personalized note from the curator and some gummy bears to go with it.

Now, of all the items I like the tote, mascara, and necklace the most because they fit me well. The tote is black and white and simple. It’s made from recycled canvas, which is a huge bonus in my world, and hopefully yours. The leaf necklace is an item I would have bought myself, and I did. I own a smaller version in copper. I love it because, as most people know, I’m a hiker and I love me some Colorado nature. My third favorite is the mascara. It does exactly as it says. End of story.

Moving on to the items I haven’t expressed my undying love for. The cardigan is cute, but it’s also long and I am 5’3” so that means I need to wear heels when I wear it. I love that it has pockets and that it would dress up a cute t-shirt. It’s definitely versatile. No real complaints though, I am definitely still excited to try it out. The watch is a love hate situation for me. I love the colors and the look. I hate that I don’t wear watches and that the band is silicone. Everything sticks to silicone. My cat might be wearing it right now. One thing is for sure; he will look fashionable. In all seriousness, I promise to wear the watch sometime because it is cute. The last item is my least favorite. I am not fond of the scarf because it feels like a summer item and despite my somewhat wild personality, I don’t care for the wild colors for regular wear. Being that it’s Fall, I would have appreciated something fuzzy over sheer. I think I may wear the scarf as a swim wrap when I go to Mexico in March, or use it as a decorative table covering. I will play with it and see what I come up with.

Overall, I liked the box and I plan to become a subscriber. It feels personalized with the inclusion of the note and friendly gesture of sending gummy bears. This is a company that feels warm and fuzzy. I want to see what else they have up their sleeves.

Within the next week I will get some photos of the above items being used. Once posted, you can view them here: https://www.facebook.com/starspiritadventures/
